Near the end of each year, I begin working on a new and updated art book that includes all the artwork I’ve created for that year. I’m doing things a bit differently for 2023. The book I published last year, including artwork from 1997-2022, was over 350 pages. And because it was so huge, I could only publish a paperback version. It’s a brick.
For my 2023 recap, I decided to go a different route. Last year was my most prolific year, and with so many new pieces (61), I decided to make a smaller book with artwork only for that year. It’s a little less unwieldy, and I can make it in more formats more easily.
A big part of my creative process in 2023 (and going into 2024) has been directly focused on opening channels with my “muse.” I’ve been trying harder to listen to what inspires me most, following my gut instincts, identifying my creative barriers, and letting go. In other words, just shutting up, listening, and playing.
This new book, “The Generosity of Aphrodite: My Year with the Muse,” is available in various formats and is specifically dedicated to the muse and the process I’m developing for myself.
I have a year to think about how the next book will be or whether to do one or not, but I’m considering showcasing only some of my “selected works” instead of everything I create. The only problem is the selection process. I’m also going to be researching better publishers and formats.
I’m looking forward to 2024, and I hope this new year is really good to all of us.
Love reading about your process and your work with your Muse. I’m sure it’s a great read/look into your incredible art.
Thanks so much, Pic. You’ve taught me so much and I don’t know where I’d be in my art journey without the tools you’ve given me. I mentioned you in a couple of posts (here and here) and I hope that it has helped other people find you.
